A more detailed map of your downriver journey is located under Trip Guide and River Maps. Suggestions for trip preparation and a River Code of Ethics is included.

Geology/Hydrology/Paleontology ............................................................. 10
In a far distant past, what we know as Nebraska hosted savannahs whose rich vegetation and water gave nourishment to a myriad of strange creatures. The Rocky Mountains uplift, ice, volcanic ash and blowing sand helped structure what we see today.

Trip Guide and River Maps ........................................................................ 13
The river map and self-guided tour are included in this section. Beginning just below the Cornell Dam, the maps will guide you to waterfalls, over rapids, around corners to hiking trails and under bridges while providing a brief look at historical events, places, people, birds and animals. The maps have been color-coded to assist in locating restrooms, campgrounds, concessions and more. A list of Outfitters and other camping facilities are included.

History .................................................................................................... 36
For the purpose of this story, history shall begin with the memories of a great people and move forward to present day records. People have come and gone, and so have the animals. Come trace their steps and relive a past where only the ghosts of silent voices, papered records and tales from the old ones recount the real story.

Natural History ........................................................................................ 48
Additional color plates are provided for ease in bird, mammal and flower identification.
